Hair Inspirations

Here is a link to my inspirations and ideas for the hair for my photo shoot.
Furthermore the look I chose is very simple in keeping with my theme. Pinterest helped me to find different styles I could use and to narrow it down to my chosen look: worn down in loose waves. This keeps in with my theme of a natural overall look.

Costume Inspiration

https://www.pinterest.com/sienamatkin/media-regional-magazine-costume-inspiration/

This is a link to my ideas and inspiration for the costume for my photo shoot.
Pinterest and fashion magazines were my inspiration for the costume. Considering I am not doing a fashion magazine I thought it was best to keep the clothes simple i.e. white shirt, jeans, so that they were recognisable to the audience as this may be what they would wear in their daily life. I also chose to use a green trench coat as part of the costume as I felt that it made the overall outfit slightly more polished. A coat was also more in fitting with conventions as in real life it would be published in December/January, a time when winter clothes will be being shown in magazines as opposed to summer.

Make-up Inspiration and Plan

https://uk.pinterest.com/sienamatkin/media-regional-magazine-make-up-inspiration/

This is a link to a Pinterest board which shows the inspiration I have for the beauty look for my magazine photoshoot. The picture below is my final plan for the make-up.

Pinterest helped a lot in terms of putting together the mis en scene for my photoshoot - the images provided an inspiration as to how I would like my own models make up to look. I want quite a natural face overall but I like the way a bright red lip stands out as it draws the reader in and combined with black cat flick eyeliner has a classic look that may be familiar to readers. I also used ideas I had seen from illustrations by MAC etc. to illustrate how I wanted the make up to look. On the day of the shoot I had a clear idea what I wanted to do and meant I was fully prepared.

Inspiration for Magazine Shoot

To get ideas for my photo shoot I looked through some existing fashion magazines editorials and interviews. I used Grazia, Glamour and Marie Claire as my inspiration, as well as the e-magazine for netaporter.com The Edit. I chose these magazines because they contain a house style that I would ideally like to replicate within my own magazine - clean, simple and attractive to look at. From looking at these magazines I have more of an idea as to the kind of images I am going to take, the costume/make-up I will use, the poses I will position my model in and ideas of different fonts I would like to use. In addition, the contents page for The Edit has given me inspiration as to how I would like to set out my own.

I personally am a consumer of fashion magazines so I used these as an inspiration for the type of photos I would like to take. Although my photo shoot will not be fashion orientated, the poses used and overall look of the images/features on the page looks attractive which is what I would like to recreate in my own magazine. Some of the interview/articles in particular have further helped as they have given me ideas of how I would like the layout of my double page spread to look e.g. pull quotes, drop caps, italics vs. bold etc.

Recce

Location Scout

The location I have chosen for my photoshoot is a photography studio. This was not my original idea, as before I had plans to take the photos at an outside location such as Newcastle Quayside. I liked this location because it is within the regional area so would be identifiable to readers, but also because it is very pretty it would make a nice backdrop for the pictures. However, in order to get the lighting and overall look for my photos I would have to take them during the day. It is very busy around this area during the day so it would be hard to get the photos I wanted as I think the model would look insignificant amongst all of the people. In addition the weather is often unreliable and it would be hard to find a day when it was sunny and calm. The photography studio is a better option because it is much more reliable and the photos will be easier to edit. In addition I can get to it a lot easier than going to Newcastle, which can be quite expensive on public transport.

Facial Expression Theory

Facial Expression Theory from sienamatkin

I think that I am likely to use either Chocolate Box or Invitational for my magazine cover. I think the friendliness or mystery will intrigue my audience, whereas the Super-Smiler's arrogant tone could potentially alienate them. Obviously I will not be using the Romantic pose, as this requires two people - I only have one model and that pose would have no link to my magazine or the look I was trying to portray.
